PETAL: 1.5 SMB Client Access

Previous: 1.4 Linux Client Access Next: 1.6 Cost Home: Petal Documentation

Once a project filesystem has been created as per section 1.3, the project is accessible from all University SMB clients at:

\\petal-fs.leeds.ac.uk\my_project

or

smb://petal-fs.leeds.ac.uk/my_project

No further action is required - the filesystem should be automatically accessible.

The only unusual thing about SMB access - we have found that if a user attempts to delete a file from Microsoft Explorer, then even outside of the grace period it appears to delete successfully. But in fact, it's just been deleted from the Explorer window - nothing has happened on the server. Refreshing Explorer will cause the file to reappear in the Explorer window.
