Faculty of Environment

Using Faculty RAID arrays

  1. Access from Windows: The Faculty large-volume storage system is accessible from all Windows systems connected to AD. You have to manually fetch the appropriate filesystem - this requires knowledge of the server and filesystem names. (e.g. from Windows Explorer - Tools -> Map Network Drive -> Folder: \\foe-data-01\a1).
  2. Access from Linux: The Faculty large-volume storage system is accessible from all Faculty Linux systems via automounted filesystems. (e.g. cd /nfs/foe-data-01_a1).
  3. External access: All the fileservers are externally accessible from VPN connections
  4. Quotas: Normally quotas aren't applied. The PI who bought the filesystem decides which users are allowed access, and the entire filesystem is available to all users. The research group manages the disk space themselves. (Although quotas can be applied if requested).
  5. Permissions:  By default, Faculty large volume storage is setup to be readable by everyone, and writable by the user.
  6. Accessing backups.
